Despite his obnoxiousness, John is a top bloke and has remained a friend of mine from my racing days in South Africa. We used to ride on the same team and shared many dark moments together. John is fanatical about racing so much it also doninates his working life as he trains some of the top cyclists in SA.

I made John a single speed frame which he can use solely for pleasure or, if he’s so inclined, for some fixed wheel training in winter. He could also decide to spend some time on the track, because the frame has the correct bottom bracket height for the track.

The frame is made from Columbus Life with an integrated seat-stay clamp. The blue colour was inspired from John’s racing team colours.

It is the first Saffron to land on the shores of Cape Town (though there are a couple more heading that way for the Cape Argus 2015).
