James

James’s bike is an all stainless Columbus XCr road bike for fast road rides and winter club runs alike. With subtle mudguard mounts, this bike is ready for UK weather round the year.
For 28c tyres with guards, we were able to use straight chain and seat stays for a clean look and a responsive ride. The hidden pinchbolt seatpost clamp tops the seat stays.
We went with electronic gearing and hydraulic disc brakes for low maintenance which goes against what many may think but they are both fit and forget with no adjustment necessary, simply swap the pads and chain when they’re worn out. No cables to stretch, adjust, replace. The batteries will only need charging after a month of riding.

The paint scheme for James’s bike came from the stacking effect of distant mountains at dawn where the colour changes in a stepped gradient the further into the distance the peaks are. We have a rich candy green for the main colour which takes several darker steps going down the frame to a very dark green, almost black, at the bottom.
Each step is variegated by a jagged, mountain peak-esque vein of coppery gold leaf as a nod to the beautiful copper hair of James’s son. His name is also represented in the same copper metal leaf on the top of the stem in morse code form.
