After a break of many years Massimo got back in the saddle and rediscovered his love for cycling. We were thrilled that he approached us to make his dream bike! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Many years off the bike changes one’s body. It took Massimo a few off-the-peg bikes to realise none would fit like a glove.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
With all our bikes we start with the rider’s geometry. We worked with Jorrit van der Plaats, a Sport Scientist and Bike Fitter, to nail Massimo’s contact points so that he would ride as long and hard as he wanted while staying comfortable the entire time.⠀⠀
Massimo’s bike needed to be strong and comfortable enough for the cobbles of Paris-Roubaix and fast enough for Sunday club runs.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We achieved this by:
– Running 32mm tubeless tyres with 32 spoke handbuilt wheels
– SRAM RED AXS group-set
– Disc brakes
– Quarq power meter for training
– Columbus XCR Stainless steel tubing to keep the bike light + ensure longevity
– Rideworks T47 bottom bracket where the construction was fully brazed using a low percentage of silver to give more elongation within the soldering compound for a stronger brazing joint.
Massimo came with a clear idea of what the bike should look like in terms of paint design. He opted for a ‘flip paint’ (i.e reflects 3 different colours depending on the angle of light) for all the tubing except the Saffron logo on the down-tube which is the exposed stainless steel coming through the paint. The specific colour used is a Blue Iris SuperShift®️ Pearl that allows for wonderful variances of purple, blue and gold depending on how the light hits the tubes during a ride.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
