Mathew

Mathew’s bike is purpose built for endurance riding events and will see year round audaxes in the UK and abroad. He collected the bike last month and immediately set off for Paris with it to complete the famous Paris-Brest-Paris, a 1200km self supported ride which has been running since 1981 and is now held every 4 years with riders coming from all around the globe to participate.
We built Mathew’s bike from Columbus stainless steel and it features dynamo light internal wiring, full lightweight fenders, extra bottle carrying capacity and mounts for light luggage.
We opted for the Sinewave Beacon headlight for its integrated USB charging capabilities to he can keep his Garmin and other devices charged for the whole trip while he rides. We made a custom rear light mount so the tail light can sit as low as possible whilst still being visible over the rear fender to allow maximum room for a saddle bag if necessary.

Whilst this frame is staying unpainted, we added some finishing to it by first polishing the chainstays, seatstays and downtube and then masking the stays with some additional bands at either end and the Saffron downtube logo. Then the frame was hand brushed with emery pads for a uniform, unidirectional finish.

There is a stainless steel “tree of life” featured at the base of the seat tube which was also polished along with the Saffron headbadge.
Finally to tie it together, we also brushed the velo orange polished fenders to the same finish as the frame.
All of this finishing can be redone in the future to quickly remove years worth of scratches and bring the frame up to a brand new looking finish once more.
