Mark spends some of the summer months in the south of France where he produces wine using natural and traditional methods. He asked us to produce a bike for him to enable him to ride down to the vineyard from London at a leisurely pace carrying his clothes and luggage with him with the ability to remove the racks and still have a comfortable but not cumbersome road bike for exploring the local countryside on shorter jaunts once he was there with many more touring trips planned for the future.
We made his touring bike from Columbus XCR with a comfortable position, mounts for racks, fenders and a custom made stainless steel low rider rack for the carbon fork.
Taking inspiration from the paint scheme on his gravel bike but expanding on the theme, we started at the back of the frame with the deep navy moving up into the feature colour at the front.
The front half of this bike represents, with its leaves, flowers and vines, the Sari worn, in many sentimental photos and memories, by Mark’s late wife. It is a celebration of the vibrancy and eternal nature of life and a reminder of the bright memories of time spent with family and loved ones.
We used a gold leaf for the downtube with a subtle texture like the rich silk fabric and recreated the gold detailing at the edges of the material.
